Rock Guitar Lessons

Rock guitar lessons from Los Angeles Guitar Academy will help your technique in rock, jazz, blues, or acoustic guitar grow faster and with better retention. We blend in classical technique for better control, dexterity, and familiarity with the fingerboard. We add in a bit of Flamenco training to build up your forearm’s extensor muscles, which will greatly improve your right-hand technique. Finally, to give you an edge in the competitive world of rock guitar music, we teach you to read written scores well, and add some music theory for better knowledge of the intervals, harmonic and melodic structure that will make improvisation and songwriting much easier. With our rock guitar courses, music theory rocks!

Learning to play by ear is an important component of our rock guitar program. Incorporating elements of music theory and ear training, we teach you to hear music, then duplicate the song on your guitar. With this powerful tool, you can learn to play the music of many popular rock and pop artists on your guitar, including Muse, Nickelback, The Misfits, Metallica, Jimi Hendrix, Eric Clapton, B.B. King, Björk, Kanye West, Shiny Toy Guns, Jack Johnson, John Mayer, Katy Perry, and more! Los Angeles Guitar Academy rock guitar teachers have worked with some of the top names in the rock music, jazz, hip-hop and rap, country, blues, and folk music scene.

We have taught many different styles of rock guitarists, from indie to jazz-influenced to hip-hop to thrash metal, and everything between.  We teach both electric and acoustic guitarists. Just ask us, and we will design a program to meet your specifications.

Rock, jazz, blues, pop, country and acoustic guitar lessons are available in our studios, located throughout the Los Angeles area, and through private webcam guitar lessons.

Rock Guitar 101:

Beginners start by learning chords and progressions. You will learn some easy melodies to develop your picking and fingerpicking technique. With these, you will learn the basics of reading music. You will learn some elementary fingerboard theory, such as basic intervals and scales. Our teachers encourage learning to play by ear as early as possible.

Rock Guitar 102:

Intermediate students learn bar chords, advanced picking and fingerpicking techniques, more fingerboard theory, some Flamenco guitar techniques to develop a strong right hand, some improvisation, and further development in ear training.

Rock Guitar 201:

Our advanced students learn advanced music fingerboard theory and classical guitar technique to help develop facility and familiarity with written scores, complex melodic and harmonic structiures,  as well as many more advanced techniques.

Session Guitar 202:

For professional guitarists of all styles who play in bands, play in a backup band for a singer, or who play for recording sessions for themselves or other artists. Classical, world, Latin, and Flamenco techniques are added to the instruction in the student’s chosen genre(s) to give professional guitarists all the tools they need to maintain their success in a highly competitive field. We also incorporate advanced music theory, ear training, and compositional skills into the instruction in order to broaden the guitarist’s musical knowledge.
